Three years later, in 1993, he was appointed the Inspector General of Police.

During his tenure as Inspector General, Inyang implemented a number of reforms to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the police force. He established community policing programs, revamped the criminal investigations department, and introduced measures to combat corruption in the force. He also oversaw the creation of several police training institutions, designed to improve the quality of training received by officers.

Inyang’s tenure as the Inspector General of Police came to an end in 1999 when a new government was installed. However, his legacy lives on, and he is still regarded as one of the most accomplished police officers in the history of Nigeria.

Etim Inyang was married and had children. He was known for his love of cars and was reputed to have owned several luxury vehicles. Inyang was also a lover of good architecture and was well-known for his magnificent house, located in his hometown, Ikot Ekpene.
