Cassper Nyovest is a South African rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Born Refiloe Maele Phoolo on December 16, 1990, in Mahikeng, North West province, South Africa, Cassper Nyovest started his career in music in 2004 as a member of a group called Childhood Gangsters (CHG). With the group, they released a demo tape but disbanded shortly after, leading Cassper Nyovest to pursue a solo career.

Cassper Nyovest’s following album, ‘Refiloe’, released in 2015, debuted at number one on the iTunes South Africa chart. The album attained gold status within a day of release, becoming the fastest-selling album in South African history. In 2016, he released ‘Thuto,’ his third studio album that broke records as it went platinum in a day of release.

His fourth studio album, ‘Sweet and Short,’ was released in November 2018. The album features international collaborations with American rapper, DJ Sumbody, DJ Somebody, and Diamond Platnumz from East Africa. In December 2020, he released his fifth studio album, ‘A.M.N. (Any Minute Now),’ which features collaborations with African musicians like Zola 7, Busiswa, Boohle, and Nadia Nakai.
